The automaker has just released a series of videos highlighting their newest invention: the Intelligent Parking Chair. Produced as a way to show people how their Intelligent Park Assist system will work, the Intelligent Parking Chair uses various cameras and autonomous technology to park itself around various spaces.
According to a Nissan press release, “The ‘Intelligent Parking Chair’ is a unique chair that automatically moves to a set position. The chair includes a roller to automatically move 360 degrees paired with a system that indicates the target position. Four cameras placed on the room's ceiling generate a bird's-eye view to wirelessly transmit the chair's position and its route to destination.”
It’s the same way really that the Parking Assist system works, with drivers having to do very little to get their car parked in even a very tight space, other than simply pressing the brake or gas pedal. It’s just another step in Nissan’s journey towards full autonomous cars, the first wave of which is due out in the year 2020.
