For over forty years, Albuquerque has hosted the International Balloon Fiesta, also known as the world’s largest hot air balloon event. Thousands of people from all over the world make the trek each year to participate in and experience firsthand the magical “desert kaleidoscope.” Recently called one of the "Best Fall Escapes in the United States" by National Geographic, this year's celebration is one you won't want to miss.

The 45th Balloon Fiesta takes place October 1-9, 2016. Each morning, spectators can watch a balloon launch or the mesmerizing Mass Ascension event. The Mass Ascension is a launch of all the participating balloons. Hundreds of colorful balloons of all shapes, sizes and designs fill the sky at once—you may even spot some of your favorite animals or characters! Fiesta-goers are free to walk the field before and after the launch to speak with pilots and see the balloons up close, a rare opportunity in the world of hot-air ballooning.

There are many other events you’ll want to catch while at the fiesta. From laser light shows to the famed Fiesta of Wheels Car Show to riveting chainsaw carving events, this fiesta is filled to the brim with spectacular sights and sounds. There will also be live music and performances, including a performance from the one and only Chris Young on Oct. 8!
