Nissan's Technical Center in Stanfield, Arizona is over 3,000 acres, which is quite a long way to walk and quite a long way to drive in an air conditionless golf cart in the middle of the Arizona desert. So what do the genius (read: mad) scientists at Nissan do to solve this problem? They invent a whole new car, that's what.
Merging the hybrid stunner, Leaf, with everyone's favorite pickup, the Frontier, Nissan's engineers created the one-of-a-kind EV Camino, an electric hybrid with a Leaf cabin/engine and a Frontier truck bed.
And, boy, is the result adorable. Agile enough to get them around the complex and tough enough to carry various parts and equipment, the EV Camino (who is affectionately nicknamed Sparky) is proof positive of the creative force that is behind so many of Nissan's terrific autos.
Unfortunately, Sparky is not street legal and we'll probably never see the EV Camino driving down our highways, but a hybrid two-door pickup is a very interesting idea and one that I'm sure Nissan will be looking into now that their engineers have come up with something that's not only charming and fuel efficient, but also powerful.
Who knows, maybe in a few years we'll all be driving a version of the hybrid, so get busy writing those letters guys and let Nissan know you want this car!
Check out the video below to see the EV Camino being made. And if you're looking for a great hybrid car without the truck bed, then come by our showroom and check out the 2015 Nissan Leaf in Albuquerque. And don't forget to check out the 2015 Nissan Frontier also in Albuquerque, if you need a great pickup that gets amazing fuel economy on its own.
And trust us, if Sparky ever comes our way, you'll be the first to know.
