Nissan has just been named one of the most valuable brands in the world. According to the annual report put out by Interbrand, the internationally known brand consultancy group, Nissan climbed nine spots to be the world's 56th most powerful brand.

The report looks at multiple factors when deciding a company's ranking, from fiscal performance to product portfolio and global brand awareness, and it was these main factors that helped Nissan climb the list, making it one of the report's "top risers." It was also Nissan's impressive monetary growth that spawned its climb up the charts, with the report taking into account the automaker's increased profit margin from $6.5 billion to $7.6 billion this year.

"Brand power is a key indicator of the health of the Nissan business and a major driver of the company's growth," said Roel de Vries, Nissan Corporate Vice President and global head of Marketing and Brand Strategy. "We are pleased to see a 23 percent increase in brand value from last year - nearly doubling Nissan's brand value since its inaugural appearance on the list in 2011 - and recognition as a 'top' riser in the study."

Nissan's biggest claim to fame this year was its leadership in the electric vehicle segment. Nissan's LEAF is now the bestselling electric car in the world, which has earned Nissan the title of the world's greenest car brand. The report noted that they expect Nissan to continue to grow in the coming years due to its strength in the green car market and its continued investment in future technologies like fuel cell autos and self-driving cars.
