Test mules for the upcoming, fully redesigned 2016 Nissan Maxima have finally been spotted and from what we can tell from these new prototypes, the 2016 Maxima is taking the sedan model to a whole new level.
Fans have been anxiously waiting for the redesigned Maxima to see what new features it would sport and what old features it would keep. Looking at the prototype, the updated Maxima is influenced by the Nissan Sport Sedan Concept (below) that premiered at the Detroit Auto Show this past January. The concept applies "sports car principles to a sedan [by pairing the previous Maxima design] with bold and exciting sports car design and proportions."
While the new Maxima isn't as "dramatic" as the Sport Sedan Concept, the sedan does borrow the concept's more aggressive features, such as its V-shaped grille and boomerang head and taillights. It also gets the concept's dramatic side body lines and fender arches.
Under the hood, look for a wide range of powertrains, including a hybrid variant and a turbocharged four, engines that should pair nicely with the new Maxima's sportier design. The addition of the Sport Sedan Concept's 3.5-liter V6 will also be a nice option for shoppers wanting that extra heft of power.
